Planning to tie the knot? Say ‘I Do’ to upcycled wedding decor

March 15, 2019

Congratulations! You’re about to take the next step in life, leaving behind your bachelor lifestyle and taking on the next chapter as a married couple. As the big day draws closer, you may find the to-do list grows ever longer, and expenses start to stack up. From the dress to the venue to the decorations; getting married is not cheap. But don’t despair! We are here with some handy tips and tricks to achieve the décor you desire without breaking the bank, alongside giving your wedding a warm and personal atmosphere.

Furniture: A place to seat your guests is essential for both the ceremony and the reception. Why not raid your garage or local charity shops to find some old chairs? With a lick of paint and a bit of love, this is a great way to add a splash of colour to your special day.

Various surfaces will also be required to place items such as (hopefully) empty plates, (definitely) empty glasses and various decorations to make your mark upon your chosen venue. Rather than acquire conventional furniture, thinking outside the box can give your wedding a unique aspect. For example, you can upcycle crates and stack them to form a bar.  The bright shades will immediately draw attention, a necessity when alcohol is involved.

You also need a suitable place to exhibit the wedding cake. More a work of art than an edible substance, your showstopper deserves an equally as beautiful base to rest upon. Upcycling an old dresser and filling the drawers with flowers is a beautiful way to present your masterpiece.

Another unusual but aesthetically pleasing idea is the use of a ladder. Transform the boring, brown wood into something bright and lively with one of our 12 stunning shades, before displaying your chosen objects. Some concepts we love are: Attaching string and pegs to the ladder. Take polaroids of your guests when they arrive and hang them for everyone to see. Put finger food, such as cupcakes, in easy reach. Exhibit flowers or other decorations.

Decorations: Whether its lilies or roses, flowers are a necessity for your wedding. However, the cost of buying bouquets, boutonnieres and centrepieces soon adds up. Therefore, we have a cute DIY option for your centrepieces to help bring that cost down: Firstly, choose 3 tints from our collection. Next, gather a collection of old, translucent jars. Then, using a medium-sized brush, paint the inside or outside of the jar, depending on the finishing look your aiming for. It’s so easy the kids can do it!

When this is complete, you can fill them with your chosen flower. Or, if you want to stand out from the crowd, fill the jars with fairy lights. They will look magnificent once the lights go down.

Top Tip: To beat the cost of boutiques, handpick your flowers, or buy them from supermarkets and arrange them yourselves. It may not be perfect, but perfect is boring anyway.

Don’t stop at jars; there are so many options of other items you can jazz up. How about painting some watering cans to decorate the outside of your venue? Or what about those old photo frames gathering dust in the loft? With a little effort, they can create a stunning backdrop for your big day.

We have specifically designed our containers of paint to look stunning, with a range of designs to choose from. When you order with us, pick a pattern that compliments your theme and use the empty tins as decoration.
